An old friend posted this little snippet on my website. I haven’t talked to her in like 4 years... her topic is one that I have always thought about. I truly believe a majority of America does not know what true love is. I am amazed at how the Word “love" is thrown around without care. Think about it... we use the same word to describe our feelings for pizza as we do for our soul mate ("I love pizza" = "I love _Name_"). It isn’t logical to me. I think love should be redefined... it should gain back its meaning, its worth, its importance. It should not be something to keep us busy, or because it’s in style. It should be from the Heart & Soul... nothing less.
I really love DMB’s “Crash Into Me" I think it ranks in my Top 10 songs. Though it’s an overtly sexual song, it is also beautiful at the same time. Zach thinks I like the song solely because of its sexual quality and I’ll admit he’s right to a certain degree. I am an extremely passionate person and in certain situations, it translates into sexual behavior and I guess sexual things sometime fascinate me. However, I am mainly attracted to the milieu the song produces, the feeling of being loved and cherished as a result of completing the human connection. In Moby Dick, there’s an odd chapter about squishing the whale’s fat to keep it from solidifying. Ishmael says that sometimes as one sticks his hands into the fat, he grabs the hand of another crew member, and this bond keeps the world from seeming so bleak and hopeless. In a way, he’s saying that no matter how bad things get, one still has others to find strength, to lean on in times of need, to find happiness.
The lyrics also make me think of Walt Whitman’s poetry (we are currently psychoanalyzing “Songs of Myself" to the nth degree), which contains poems that share a similar sexual feel. Whitman saw sex, not as something dirty that should be left unmentioned, but a glorious act, a belief that I share. To him, sex was a great and necessary action it engendered life and provided a spark to fuel creativity. It was an act that should be deeply appreciated because it’s the greatest physical connection one could make with another human being.
However, the blatantly casual view of sex that MTV and other widely viewed media stations repulses me. The media’s portrayal of sensual images, whether through words or pictures, degrades the very beauty of sex and creates the belief that sex is something casual. After it’s done, those who shared it are the same people they were before it. I don’t believe this to be the case because sex is binding, the sealing of the human connection I stated earlier. You will be different, no matter how much you deny it.
Sex should not be seen as the stuff of cramped backseats, dirty public bathrooms, or foreign bedrooms during a party. It should be a creative tool, a feeling of emotional or spiritual completion, and most importantly, an act of love.

I agree with John's beleif system about sex.I am abhored at the way it is exploited today, and unless you have that personal, spiritual and emotional connection and a total comittment towards the other person, you cannot experience the most intimate part of love which is sacred sex.I have felt this for the last 40 years, and never taken a moment for granted while experiencing sexual bliss...I imerse myself in this feeling before, during, and after...but a word of warning you need to know who to share your garden with, otherwise it is quite easy to have someone trample all over your flowers...if you get my drift...by G.M.T. from Down Under
